Confessions of a Stemware Snob…
I come clean in this Saturday’s Montreal Gazette about my affection (affliction) for expensive wine glasses. Check it out in tommorows Weekend Life section…

I enjoyed your article on Stemware Snobbery in today's Gazette. Your mention of proper glassware for Champagne has me puzzled. Do not the "Snobbiest" of Champagne flutes have a hollow stem? I have attached a photo showing one of my own flutes, with a skewer demonstrating the hollow stem. Bottoms up! bharry
agreed...get the bubbles going all the way up the stem..but don't forget the couch wrestling..hollow stems would last maybe one evening at my place... thanks for reading. Bill
For me it isn't the expense of the wine glass that is attractive, but its utility for properly framing the wine. I have found that the less expensive Schott Zwiesel and Spiegleau stem ware do just as well as the Riedel at half the cost.
Having said that, I would no more want to drink a fine wine from a "joker" wine glass than I would put a Van Gogh in a $10 plastic picture frame from Wal Mart.
